Steven Kaplan, MD, FACS

Dr. Steven Kaplan serves as Director of the Men’s Wellness Program at Mount Sinai Health System and is a Professor at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. He is widely recognized as a leading authority on benign urologic conditions, particularly diseases of the prostate, the link between metabolic factors and urinary symptoms, and female urology.

Dr. Kaplan earned his medical degree from Mount Sinai School of Medicine in 1982 and was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. He completed his internship and residency in the Department of Surgery at Mount Sinai Hospital, followed by a residency in urology at the Squier Urologic Clinic at Columbia University. From 1988 to 1990, he was an American American Urological Association Scholar, focusing on molecular markers and urodynamic measures that signal bladder and prostate dysfunction.

He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Urology and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Over the course of his career, Dr. Kaplan has published more than 1,000 works, including over 600 peer-reviewed articles, 570 invited peer-reviewed articles, and 90 book chapters and other publications. His landmark 2006 study in JAMA reshaped the way medications are used to treat men with symptoms related to benign prostate enlargement and bladder dysfunction.

Dr. Kaplan has delivered more than 340 presentations in over 35 countries, co-authored five books, and serves on the editorial boards of several leading journals, including Urology, The Journal of Urology, and Urology Times.
