Robert J. Valenzuela, MD, FACS
Director of Penile Prosthesis Surgery
Mount Sinai Hospitals
New York, New York

Dr. Valenzuela focuses on prosthetic urology, sexual dysfunction, urinary incontinence after prostate surgery, benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), and the treatment of Peyronie’s disease. He is also active in medical education. In the Northeast, he is among the most experienced surgeons performing penile prosthesis implants, artificial urinary sphincters, and male sling procedures.

He previously served as an Assistant Clinical Professor at the Squire Urological Clinic at NY-Presbyterian Hospital, part of Columbia University. He is currently the Director of Penile Prosthesis Surgery at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City.

Dr. Valenzuela is a Diplomate of the American Board of Urology and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He regularly leads patient education seminars and lectures to urologists and primary care physicians on the treatment of erectile dysfunction and urinary incontinence. He also trains physicians in the United States and internationally in advanced surgical techniques, including inflatable penile prosthesis implantation with length preservation methods, male sling procedures, artificial urinary sphincter placement, Prostatic Urethral Lift (UroLift), and the management of complex revision or replacement prosthetic cases.

He developed the Sub-Coronal Inflatable Penile Prosthesis procedure (SC-IPP) and the Modified Sliding Technique (MoST/MuST). These techniques are designed to preserve or restore penile length and to correct severe penile curvature caused by Peyronie’s disease during prosthesis implantation.

Dr. Valenzuela stays active in the field through his affiliations with the American Urological Association, the Hispanic Medical Association, the Dominican Medical Association, the Sexual Medicine Society, and the International Society for Sexual Medicine.

He is also the founder and president of the Northeast Mission of Hope, a medical mission that provides free surgical care to underserved communities worldwide. As part of his community outreach, he also performs free cancer screenings each year.

Dr. Valenzuela earned his medical degree from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine and completed both his internship and residency at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City.
