Dr. Grafstein specializes in reconstructive urology, with a focus on urinary tract reconstruction, female urology, and the treatment of urinary incontinence. He cares for patients with both neurourological conditions, such as spinal cord injury and multiple sclerosis, and non-neurogenic voiding dysfunction.
He has a particular interest in treating male post-prostatectomy incontinence and uses innovative, minimally invasive techniques whenever appropriate. Dr. Grafstein is also among a small number of urologists nationwide with advanced training in adult male urethral reconstruction, including urethroplasty for stricture disease and trauma.
His reconstructive practice extends to continent urinary diversion, vaginal and pelvic floor reconstruction for pelvic organ prolapse, and repair of complex genitourinary fistulae.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Grafstein has authored numerous peer-reviewed journal articles, scientific abstracts, instructional videos, and textbook chapters. He is a frequent invited lecturer at academic institutions, speaking on topics such as urinary incontinence, continent urinary diversion, and urethral reconstruction. His research has been recognized with awards from both the American College of Surgeons and the American Urological Association.
