Michael J. Droller, M.D., is a board-certified urologist who earned his medical degree, cum laude, from Harvard Medical School. He completed his internship in internal medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, began his surgical residency at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in Boston, and then joined the U.S. Public Health Service at the National Institutes of Health. There, as a Clinical Associate in the National Institute of Arthritis and Metabolic Diseases, he conducted both clinical and laboratory research.
He later completed his urology residency at Stanford University Medical Center and spent a year conducting immunologic research in the Department of Immunology at the University of Stockholm. He then joined the faculty at Johns Hopkins Hospital and School of Medicine, serving in the Departments of Urology and Oncology.
In 1984, Dr. Droller was appointed Professor and Chairman of the Department of Urology at Mount Sinai, a role he held for 19 years. In 1998, he was named the Katherine and Clifford Goldsmith Professor of Urology and also served as Professor of Oncology.
Dr. Droller’s clinical work focuses on urologic cancers, particularly bladder and prostate cancer. Alongside his clinical and laboratory research, he has been deeply involved in teaching and in communicating with both medical professionals and the public. He has also held several leadership positions in major professional organizations and medical journals related to his field.
